Calcata is a medieval village close by Rome. It is located in Viterbo compound. It is a mystic and magic location, just out of time. It could be a perfect destination for a wedding for the couples who are looking a special destination.
But not only! Calcata could be the ideal setting for a fashion photo session as the one I will describe in this post. I shoot these photos for Nina Syc stylist and designer (she is also well known as Ana Gastol).
She is an original designer, her dresses are all made with paper and recycled materials.
Calcata, artists’ village
Even if Calcata is located just 40km far from Rome, this little village was able to keep its natural intact. Calcata historical center is on a tuff rock and overlooks River Treja valley. You can reach the village through a single entrance on its walls. Step in the village through the town gate is like a leap in the past. Just imagine to be in a magic place with dwarfs, witches and fantastic creatures.
Under the level of the roads houses have caves with underground paths. They are cellars and some time tombs or ancient chapels or temples.
Calcata is also known as artists’ village. Many designers come from all over the world to live and work in the village. You cannot find only painters and sculptors but even musicians and actors. You can easily meet artists in their own ateliers and have a look to their wonderful creations.
Paper dresses for an original fashion photo shooting in Calcata
Browsing through my web site I’m sure you noticed that side of being a wedding photographer I’m also an event photographer. I take photos at meetings, congresses and big events and also I’m a fashion photographer.
This is what I did for Nina Syc. She is a multifaceted artist, make up artist, hairstylist. She was born in Cracovia in 1977. From 2000 to 2005 she studies and works in Chicago and then she moves to London where she got a degree at Delamar Academy of Make Up and London College of Fashion. 2012 is a real turning point for her. She met Italian culture, she discover her passion for fashion creating recycled paper dresses as a tribute to nature and its elements. They are real art pieces finely realised with passion and love.
In 2014 – in occasion of Trash Fashion Show in Calcata – Nina Syc presented her first dress collection including a wedding dress created with paper and recycled materials.
Nina Syc’s Artistic concept is re-use and no waste.
Side of Nina Syc – who followed also models casting, their make up and hair – my photo shooting was enhanced by another artist contribute. I’m talking about Marjcke Van der Maden. She was born in Holland. She is famous for her dolls and puppies. She creates them in her atelier in Calcata. It is a wonderful spot in a tuff rock.
Marijcke takes inspirations from fairy tales, medieval stories, mythologic legends and theater. Heads, hands, feet are made of a special wooden material. Bodies are made of fabric as velvet and silk.
You can see the final result in this fashion photo session: a fantastic blend between enchanted atmosphere of Calcata Village, trash creativity of Nina Syc and ancient art of Mrijcke Van der Maden.
